The Ayatshis’amateki Mapantsula Competition is all set to rock Artscape Theatre. Numerous Isipantsula youth groups will showcase their moves, cool dress and super-fit dance-moves on 16 June 2018.

Style, energetic Isipantsula moves

This year’s competition is will see the first section of 16 groups of finalists aged between seven to 25 taking the stage for the semi-finals at 2pm, to compete for six available spots for the final round, which is scheduled for 5pm at the Artscape Arena.

Adjudicators Nkosinathi Mngomezulu, Philiswa Xhaga, Duncan Maphanga and Stone Move Galela will select groups from across the Western Cape province based on a display of entertainment value, creativity, style interpretation, team work, dance techniques (only Isipantsula moves), energy, stage presence and timeous execution.

Isipantsula is a prominent popular sub-culture, which emerged in the 1970’s and incorporates language, dress code, music and dance. The dance competition forms part of the Artscape Youth month festivities and is aimed at providing a platform to showcase the talent in the Isipantsula dance genre.

Prizes comprise of 1st, 2nd and 3rd place – which will be announced after the audition process.
