Here’s MEGAN FURNISS’ reading of Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 – The Boring Second War. Game of Thrones has been dubbed the most epic TV series of all time.
Of course, we knew that this was going to happen. Now that the unifying threat of the White Walkers is over, the battle for the iron throne becomes a thing. So, off to King’s Landing to take care of Cersei. But first, a whole bunch of drinking, staring, worrying and angsting at Winterfell.
Episode 4 is 99% simmering (and boring) setup and 1% hectic ending. I have to say it, episode 4 couldn’t even save itself with a bit more virginal sex (like Episode 2).
Low-impact Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4
This whole episode was long looks while people drank to celebrate the war, long looks by Sansa because she doesn’t trust Daenerys, long pleading scenes; first Daenerys pleads with Jon not to reveal his secret, then Brienne begs Jaime not to leave, and then Tyrion tries his hand at pleading with his crazy as batshit queen sister Cersei, before she does the most hideous, cruel and defiant thing to end the episode with.
Just before that there is some ruthless big arrow war in the waters of King’s Landing, but it was fast and ship destroying, and honestly just proved that Daenerys should have waited a bit longer.
I can’t help but feel we are going through the motions here, and unless the last two episodes have some thrilling twists and turns, it feels like we are limping to a close. A few more heads will roll, arrows will pierce hearts, allegiances will be betrayed, and sex will be had.
Is it just me, or has the thrill, tension, drama seeped out? I have been nailbitingly hooked in the past, but now I am also kinda hanging about until the end, like waiting for my ex-lover to go and live somewhere else instead of ending it brutally.
My biggest problem is that the survivors have become so clean, so hearty, so ethically straight. What happened to the drinking, fucking, crazy side of Tyrion? What happened to the insane and violent Hound? How has Jaime become a wimp?
Even Arya the outspoken has become a whisperer of thoughts. Ag man. I am not even sure I care who takes the iron throne anymore.
