The Lilliput Children’s Theatre Company premieres a new Hansel and Gretel production at the Nassau Theatre in the December 2019 school holidays. Hansel and Gretel runs from Monday 16 December to Saturday 21 December at 10.30am.
This production stars Desle Mc Conney (Athlone) as Gretel, Buddy Bo Butler (Fish Hoek) as Gerda, Jeremeo Le Cordeur (Claremont) as Hansel and Dean Van Der Ventel (Goodwood) as Rudi.
After each show the audience will meet Father Christmas, who will be handing out sweets to all of the children.
Parents please bring a present or a second-hand toy for an underprivileged child to put under Santa’s Christmas tree. These will be distributed to various children’s homes, safe houses and hospitals in Cape Town before Christmas Eve.
This Hansel and Gretel fairytale takes place in the forest during Christmas time, where a poor woodcutter lives with his wife and two children. They decide to send their children away because they cannot afford to keep them. Hansel and Gretel decide to run away instead and get lost in the forest and stumble across a house made of sweets.
Inside lives an evil old woman who makes them do all the housework. Eventually they manage to escape and find their way home. There is a happy ending and a Christmas party for Hansel and Gretel.
This version of the play is written to encourage audience participation and to create lots of fun and laughter.
It is adapted and directed by Elton John Duffy, who has been producing children’s theatre for 26 years.
The show includes songs from Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Zac Efron, Jessie J, Aaron Carter and Pharrell Williams.
