Jazz in the Cradle 2019 takes place at the NIROX Sculpture garden, featuring a specially curated line-up of jazz music performances.
It is no secret that South Africa has witnessed a great music year with a surge of exciting homegrown sounds. This year, the 9th edition of Jazz in the Cradle 2019 will celebrate “Crafting New Rooted Rhythms”, giving recognition to youthful and talented musicians.
It will be held in the luxurious gardens of the NIROX Sculpture on 1 September.
The line-up will capture the mood of some of South Africa’s loved classics with the best of present-day upbeat, yet soothing sounds. A five-piece multinational band, Soul Housing Project, led by Sakhile Moleshe, will their reflect their international and local influences – with a touch of rich, charismatic vocals that are layered with classic soul sounds.
Jazz vocalist, pianist and composer, Ziza Muftic (pictured above) will bring her unique jazz touch to the stage. Blending Eastern European folk music with American and South African jazz styles, Muftic first started her jazz career as a violinist before diversifying into vocal jazz.
There to deliver his profound fluent jazz notes, is 2019 Standard Bank’s Young Artist for Jazz, Mandla Mlangeni (right), who will bring a youthful and lively ambiance to a perfect spring day.
The concert promises a family-friendly spring experience – a picnic setting with great scenery. Festival cuisine by the Epicurean Emporium will provide a selection traders from the food and design markets of Joburg. Desserts and accompaniments will be provided by Joburg Culinary & Pastry School, Knickerbocker Ice-Cream, Happy Coconuts and more.
