A young talented clarinet and guitar duo kick-starts the 2020 Young Artists’ Concert Series with a fiery Soirée Espagnole, at Erin Hall in Rondebosch on Saturday 7 March, 2020, at 7pm.
Gold medallist and overall winner of the 2016 National Youth Music Competition (NYMC), clarinettist Cameron Williams is joined by guitarist Joshua Frank, performing mainly Latin-American and Spanish works by celebrated composers including Astor Piazolla, Manuel de Falla, Enrique Granados and Manuel Ponce, with a few surprises added in.
Cameron completed his Bachelor of Music degree cum laude at Stellenbosch University (SU) in 2019 where he majored in clarinet performance with Daniel Prozesky. While a student there, he served as the principal clarinettist of the University Symphony Orchestra and Wind Band and continued his saxophone study with Dr Arisa Voges at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre.
Joshua, a lecturer in musicology at the SU, has just completed a Master of Music degree cum laude, specialising in music cognition and the empirical study of musical emotions. He performs regularly with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, Stellenbosch University Camerata, Here Be Dragons, and Camerata Tinta Barocca on the recorder, guitar and oboe.
The two rising stars met through their studies and performances at the university. This is their first time they appear as a duo.
