Viva The Arts celebrates the end of 2019 with a burst of music and dance with Morning Melodies at the Baxter Theatre. The show takes place on Wednesday 18 December, 2019, at 10.30am.

The UCT CHOIR FOR AFRICA is a diverse group of choristers who focus on African choral music and folk songs. Their milestones include performances at the inauguration of former president Nelson Mandela and for Queen Elizabeth II on her state visit to South Africa. They sang on BBC TV’s programme My Favourite Hymns during which Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu was interviewed.

Tenor SIPHO FUBESI returns to the stage by popular demand. Sipho is in South Africa after a residency at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.

ASILI The Originals (Swahili) is a vocal ensemble that presents a fusion of classical music, opera, pop and jazz, deeply intertwined with traditional African choral undertones. Their mission is to create magical moments that warm the hearts of listeners.

Soprano CHARLOTTE MHLONGA received a nomination for Best Emerging Artist at the kykNET Fiesta Awards, and along with Bongani J Kubheka, was nominated in the Best Performance in Classical Music category for their production of  La Serva Padrona.

Bone crunching moves sums up Ricardo Koopman. His company RICARDO’S MODERN DANCE STUDIO specializes in teaching youngsters the art of expression through dance. Dancers from his studio, who consistently win awards year after year, will appear on stage.

Aviva Pelham also has a few surprises in store for you in this “feast of music and dance, inspiration and joy”.
