What a line-up! For once someone did the maths and assembled four players with distinct nuances that shape their unique sound. The regular 5.30pm Sunday summer slot at Kirstenbosch Gardens on 12 February will be filled by epic bluesman Dan Patlansky, Jack Parow, Dave Ferguson and Sannie Fox.
Blues Rock legend Dan Patlansky returns to Kirstenbosch this February for the first time since 2012. Over the past 4 years, Patlansky has made a significant impact in the international music market, becoming the first ever artist to place #1 on Blues Rock Review’s Top 20 Albums Of The Year twice (Dear Silence Thieves 2014, Introvertigo 2016).
Patlansky was also voted Male Artist of the Year 2015 by Blues & Soul Magazine, #4 of 10 Best Rock Guitarists In The World by Total Guitar Magazine in December 2015. In February 2016, he received a nomination for Best International Solo Artist for the Planet Rock Radio ‘Rocks’ Awards. He was also nominated and rated #2 in the category of Top 5 ‘Overseas Artist Of The Year’ by the British Blues Awards in September 2016.
Joining Patlansky on the day as special guests, are Jack Parow, Dave Ferguson and Sannie Fox. With two gold albums to his name, audiences need no introduction to favourite Afrikaans rapper, Jack Parow and Dan Patlansky has always wanted to hear this South African legend do his thing over his music.
Dan pegs Dave as “the most unique harmonica player”
Dan describes Dave Ferguson as ‘the most unique harmonica player he has ever heard’, best known to South Africa for his solo looping performances where he sings, plays the harmonica and beatboxes and for his collaborations with the likes of Arno Carstens, Prime Circle, etc. An international blues harmonica player praised for his ability and ingenuity, Dave has shared the stage with the likes of Ian Siegal, Bob Margolin (Muddy Waters) and many more.
One of Dan’s favourite South African artists, Sannie Fox magnetizes with a voice soulful as the gospel singers and powerful as the fado sirens of ages. With her fingers to her electric guitar she navigates across a tapestry of 70’s rock and vintage desert blues. Conjuring up vocal echoes of singers like Etta James, a feminine voracity to the likes of PJ Harvey as well as the raw sway of bands like Jefferson Airplane or Band of Gypsys, Fox is a modern story teller, an instrumentalist and performer unique as well as striking.
