American comedian Dave Chappelle will be in Cape Town, bringing his award-winning comedy skills to GrandWest.
The famous American stand-up comedian and actor will perform on the African continent for the first time ever with three shows in South Africa. He will be hitting the Grand Arena, GrandWest stage on this inaugural African tour on 27 November 2018.
In 2017, Chappelle celebrated 30 years in comedy by releasing four special comedy shows on Netflix, along with a double-feature vinyl comedy album. He has since won two Emmy Awards, a Grammy, and a Pollstar’s Comedy Tour of The Year Award.
Dave Chappelle is best known for his television sketch comedy programme Chappelle’s Show and is one of the most popular touring comics on the American circuit. His comedy focuses on racism, relationship problems, social problems, politics, current events, and pop culture. Fellow comedian Kevin Hart has said that he considers Chappelle to be the greatest stand-up comedian of all time.
Dave Chappelle’s career started while he was in high school at Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC where he studied theatre arts. At the age of 14, he began performing stand-up comedy in nightclubs. Shortly after graduation, he moved to New York City where he quickly established himself as a major young talent. At the age of 19, Chappelle made his film debut in Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993).
