Film buff Trevor Taylor presents a weekend of South African experimental films, which includes a new South African film, Girl from Nowhere by Mark Jackson. It will be ‘world premiered’ at The Labia in Cape Town on Friday, 29 September at 8.30pm.
Starring the phenomenal Christia Visser, whose role in Meg Rickards’ Tess won her awards and acclaim, Visser plays a mysterious hitchhiker on a road to nowhere.
An erotic thriller, which nods with a knowing homage to Roman Polanski’s Knife in the Water, the film is a totally independent production
Offbeat South African films

The screening is the flagship of a weekend of offbeat South African films which run from the 29 September to 2 October, 2017.
These include profiles of the work of Chris Pretorius (the doyen of Cape Town’s Glass Theatre in the 1970’s), Aldo Lee, Anton Kotze, Robert Weinek (of Africa Burn fame) and multi-facetted actor Marcel van Heerden.
By turns surreal, erotic and challenging, these films mark a very different side of the movie consciousness of our country.
Cinema For The Mind
Also as part of the programme, The Hidden Sky, an Argentinian/Nambian co-production weaves a fascinating thread as an Argentinean ethnographer searching for traces of previous civilizations finds himself embroiled in the murky world of Dr Basson’s medical experiments.
