Classical music lovers will have the opportunity to “virtually” join the four highly acclaimed musicians of Fynbos Ensemble on Sunday 10 January 2021 for an online concert which will be live-streamed from Cape Town.
Carina Bruwer, flute player and leader of the ensemble, says: “With the country on adjusted level 3 lockdown, the live music industry has yet again been placed on hold, and online concerts such as this one – which is kindly made possible by the support of Concerts SA – are the public’s only option when it comes to experiencing some form of live music. We have opted for a fully live offering, meaning that the concert will not be pre-recorded, but performed and streamed in real time, which keeps the “spark” alive and allows us to connect with our audience by responding to their comments and focus on current and relevant issues.”
Selection of chamber works
The quartet will be performing a selection of chamber music works from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras. Patrons can expect quartet arrangements of masterpieces such as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and Debussy’s Claire De Lune, as well as chamber music repertoire by Mozart and Dvorak, with the popular and virtuosic Carmen Fantasy being another highlight.
Fynbos Ensemble consists of highly qualified and successful performing musicians, collectively holding multiple degrees from Conservatories across the world. It is led by versatile, acclaimed flutist Carina Bruwer, with Hungarian-born ace violinist Elina Koytcheva, CPO principal violist Petrus Coetzee, and Oberlin Conservatory graduate Dorette Roos on cello.
Fynbos Ensemble represents a rejuvenation of the popular ACE Ensemble, which since 2003 has performed at hundreds of events and concerts countrywide, including performances for the presidency, international royalty and celebrities, numerous corporates, concerts and all the main festivals across South Africa.
