Join Goran Krivokapiç, internationally renowned classical guitarist and Gabriele von Dürckheim, principal flute of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra in their performances at The German International School and The Blah Blah Bar on 8 April, 2017.
Goran, hailing from Montenegro, but residing in Cologne, Germany, started his music education at age 8. His extraordinary ability became apparent quickly, winning his first international guitar competition at age 14. Since then he has won another 18 international guitar competitions, and two Golden Guitar Awards. He is very active on the international stage, regularly playing all over Europe, Asia, America and Russia. He also regularly conducts masterclasses internationally
Gabriele’s other love is playing chamber music
Gabriele has been an active musician since the age of 12. She has won several prizes and awards, and after completing her HML at University of Stellenbosch under Eva Tamassy, continued her studies in the UK under renowned flute professor Trevor Wye, where it became clear that she wanted to pursue a career as an orchestral musician.
Her other love is playing chamber music, and regularly performs in and around Cape Town. Gabriele has been Principal Flute of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra since 2002. This is the first time Goran and Gabriele perform together as a duo, and since Goran has a packed performance calendar and Gabriele is kept busy by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, this opportunity to work together is something they are very excited about.
The programme is the same for both venues. The vastly diverse programme include works by classical guitar composer Maoro Giuliani, Japanese musical water colourist Toru Takemitsu and tango king Astor Piazolla, and will introduce you to the best examples the flute and guitar repertoire has to offer. The performance promise to be pleasing, thought-provoking and foot-tapping!
