HEMELRUIM has been lighting up the festival circuit with rave reviews and best actress awards at Aardklop and the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) for Tinarie van Wyk Loots – as well as a 2016 Fiesta award. The acclaimed production comes to The Fugard Theatre Studio for a limited run from 25 April to 13 May. It features Paul du Toit and Van Wyk Loots, and is directed by Nico Scheepers.
The work is performed in Afrikaans with English surtitles. It is a translation of the Broadway/West End hit Constellations, by Nick Payne, which won the 2012 Evening Standard Award for best new production. The play is a beautiful story of two souls, who keep drifting in and out of each others’ lives, in an honest, raw and moving journey through the stars, filled with love, science and honey.
String theory, relativity, bee-keeping, love
Scheepers adds, “HEMELRUIM is a wonderful exploration of the universe, string theory, relativity, bee-keeping and love. How love might connect in parallel universes.”
Previously seen on The Fugard Theatre stage in the sold-out run of The Rocky Horror Show, Paul du Toit returns fresh from his Fleur du Cap win of Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Musical for his incredible transition as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He is also a popular screen actor in Binnelanders and 7de Laan on TV, and in films such as Noem My Skolllie, Semi-Soet and Liefling die Movie.
