Morcheeba’s 22 year career has seen the band sell millions of albums. Cape fans are sitting pretty as they get to see the British trip-hop pioneers when they hit South African soil for a once-off show in Cape Town on 6 April, 2018.
Trippy ‘chill out’ genre
The sensual vocals of Skye Edwards and the psychedelic guitar riffs of Ross Godfrey can be heard at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
Morcheeba defined the ‘chill out’ genre in the mid-90s with trippy songs like Rome Wasn’t Built In A Day, The Sea, Even Though and Otherwise, and emerged from the decade as a household name with a global fan base.
Morcheeba’s success story is no surprise. Edwards has one of the most recognisable voices in the music industry after being heard in cafés, lounges and Sunday sessions around the world.
‘Blaze Away’
This year the band has embarked on their biggest world tour yet, taking in headline shows and festivals, while debuting new tracks from their upcoming album in addition to playing classic hits.
“20 years in, it’s never taken us longer to tour the world,” says Skye Edwards. “We’re still finding fans in places we’ve never played before, who’ve waited all this time to see us – or fans who’ve only recently discovered our music through streaming. It’s amazing.”

Valve State support
Setting the scene for Morcheeba in Cape Town will be local support act Valve State, the brainchild of Lee Thomson and DJ Richard Marshall. They have recently been joined by award-winning pianist Jason Reolon.
Through a combination of effects, samplers, CDJ’s, computers, keyboards and trumpet, they have refined the art of blending live, improvised jazz with modern electronic music.
