Safari Roetes returns to kykNET (DStv channel 144) from Friday, 11 July 2025 at 17:30 with a third season packed with adventure, breathtaking views, hidden campsites, and stories that bring South Africa’s dusty backroads to life.
This beloved 4×4 travel show shows viewers how to explore affordable and unique destinations right here at home using their standard 4×4 vehicles.
The Tankwa Karoo
In Season 3, the team takes you to the heart of the Cederberg and the untouched Tankwa Karoo – a region known for its impressive rock formations, wide-open plains, and overwhelming natural beauty. This destination offers everything from peaceful camping and picnic spots to secret swimming holes and waterfalls – and the team shows you exactly where and how to experience them.
According to presenter and producer Petri de Wet, it’s exactly these local gems that South Africans too often overlook:
“This season, we’re covering the Cederberg and Tankwa extensively. Everyone always wants to travel up into Africa to find unique places, but not only is it expensive – you also have to deal with issues like diseases, border posts, and so on. You won’t believe it, but the beautiful places you find in Africa are just as stunning two hours from Cape Town.”
He adds that many local travelers don’t realize what’s waiting on their doorstep:
“Most South Africans don’t know and have never seen it. They don’t realize the beauty that lies in their own backyard. If they watch this season of Safari Roetes, they’ll see stunning places that give them that Namibia and Africa feeling – right here at home.”

The Safari team consists of three dynamic couples:
