
Expect singing, grooves, poetry and more from Tefo ‘Talking Drum’ Mahola and his Clan. Hear them at Alexander Upstairs Theatre on Sunday 10 June at 7pm.
This line-up is a new concept of Tefo Mahola’s, featuring original compositions and poetry ‘with meaning’. His compositional work depicts jazz and its musical influences leaning towards big band performance.
Jazz poetry
The lineup includes Tefo ‘Talking Drum’ Mahola on drums, vocals and synth keys, Keegan Steenkamp on trumpet, Christian Chandler on trombone, Nobuhle Ashanti on piano, and Stephen de Souza on electric and acoustic bass.
The set will be 55 minutes.

About Tefo ‘Talking Drum’ Clan
Tefo Mahola is a multi-talented drummer, pianist, arranger, composer and poet in the world of music hailing from Gugulethu, Cape Town. His ear for music, love for playing with new ideas keeps him pushing towards novel terrain. His musical career has had a budding start, having already toured and performed at festivals like Rocking the Daisies, Cape Town Jazz Festival, Oslo Jazz Festival and Muizenberg Jazz Festival.
He is proficient in many genres and styles, but cites jazz as his favourite.
