Recently #WorldPoetryDay seemed to go under the radar, as it got eclipsed by falling on Human Rights Day. We tend to forget the impact poetry has on the world as both an art form and weapon of social reflection and instrument of change.
Legendary poet Ingrid Jonker’s Die Kind (The Child) relays an incident as a witness during the apartheid era, where a child was shot by police during a protest. This and dozens more of her poems are adapted by an eclectic selection of artists on the compilation album Die Kind Is Nog Jonger (The Child Is Still Younger) – available on double CD, download and limited edition vinyl LP. Plus a CD / LP combo deal will be available soon.
One of these songs is Ontvlugting (Escape) TERMINATRYX’s musical adaptation of Jonker’s 1956 Afrikaans poem. The album review at WatKykJy.co.za named it “the best tribute album of the decade” and singled the Terminatryx song out as “next level”.
All of TERMINATRYX’s videos are produced by Flamedrop Productions, but here they’ve collaborated with Black Milk Productions, incorporating footage from their short film Onrusbarend.

About ‘Die Kind is Nog Jonger’
Jonker is one of South Africa’s most celebrated poets. With the 50th commemoration of her death in 1965 (suicide by drowning), her daughter Simone (and husband Ernesto Garcia Marques) spearheaded a music project to not only reinvigorate Ingrid’s timeless words, but to preserve it via a wide range of artists and new recordings exclusive to this collection.
New life is breathed into Jonker’s words by diverse musicians -veterans, established artists, imports, expatriates, award winners and some newcomers. The adaptations span pop, acoustic, blues, ambient, electronic and punk and more. Artists include Anton Goosen, Kalahari Surfers, Ivan Kadey (National Wake), Falling Mirror and Jennifer Ferguson, Tribe After Tribe and Juliana Venter, Voëlvry era bands like Die Naaimasjiene, Gereformeerde Blues Band & Khaki Monitor’s Tonia Möller, and Dirk Ace, Sighs Of Monsters (UK), Dutch harpist Anne Van Schothorst, Inge Beckmann, Somerfaan (Battery 9), Francois Breytenbach Blom (V.O.D/Die Kruis with Theo Crous).
