On 30 August, Artscape will host The Vadhini Indian Arts Academy. They’ll stage their latest dance production, Sundari – The Beauty of Dance.
Vadhini celebrates over 35 years as an Indian dance institution in Cape Town and has a longstanding history of maintaining excellence in dance education and performance.
Future pioneers of Indian dance in SA
This year they collaborate with choreographer Ketan Nagar to present a dance spectacle showcasing the Vadhini family in its entirety – from the youngest professionally trained students to the most experienced graduates and future pioneers of Indian dance development in South Africa.
Refined techniques
Sundari, meaning beautiful, is a melting pot of the best of everything, from the intricate and refined techniques of classical Indian dance to the vibrant music and costuming of Bollywood. This dance extravaganza celebrates the evolution of Indian performing arts from its roots in ancient India to its global presence in the 21 century. Vadhini’s mission has been about shedding new light on the versatility of Indian art forms – showcasing Bharatanatyam, Kathak, folk and Bollywood dance in a technical, yet creative manner without stripping it of its beauty.
