ASSITEJ South Africa will present two award-winning productions for young people at the Baxter theatre for the month of August 2026. Grommels is for pre-school or foundation phase children. The Forest is for primary school children of all ages.
Grommels is a gentle, playful, largely non-verbal performance that speaks to children through movement, colour, sound and imagination. It tells the story of two curious beings who live in a small grey world and slowly discover colour, connection and nature, with the help of one another and their audience. The show is full of humour, visual storytelling and moments of quiet wonder, making it accessible and engaging for children across ages, abilities and language backgrounds.
Created and performed by Angelique Filter and Robert Hindley, Grommels has been warmly received by young audiences and educators alike.
In 2025, the production received the Kanna Award for Best Children’s Theatre and an Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival and in 2026 it won the kykNET Fiësta winner for Best Achievement in Children’s and Youth Theatre.

The Forest is a family-friendly dance performance that explores themes of nature, ambition, love, and resilience. The show integrates live dance, vivid animation, and multi-dimensional storytelling, creating an immersive experience where children can engage actively or observe at their own pace.
