Zolani and Freshlyground have released their seventh album Can’t Stop

FreshlyGround will headline Concerts in the Park in Cape Town on Sunday 7 April, 2019, along with guitarist Mark Haze and Mr Cat and the Jackal. The gig happens at De Waal Park in Upper Orange Street, Gardens.

Kwela, indie rock

One of the most successful bands to emerge from South Africa in recent years, FreshlyGround blends infectious kwela with musical traditions from Zimbabwe and Mozambique and with elements of pop, blues and indie rock. Formed in Cape Town, the band is a national hit.

“Why not do different places?” remarks FreshlyGround singer Zolani when asked about De Waal Park. “It is a beautiful venue to share our music with the city. This is a show we as a band really look forward to as the audience is so close to you. You truly feed off the crowd and we have done this show for a number of years now.”

She adds: “We have our new album out, our seventh – entitled Can’t Stop, and we will be playing material from that, as well our classic hits. The songs translate so well live and fans show so much love when they’re played, so we’ll be reciprocating, big time,” Zolani adds.

Guitarist Mark Haze

Mark Haze is a South African singer/songwriter, performing original rock, soul and blues material. Known for his wide vocal range, Mark’s signature high energy rock and roll sound is guaranteed to have audiences on their feet. His influences range from classic rock legends like Queen, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles to blues masters, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, and Muddy Waters, all the way through to  rock artists such as My Chemical Romance, The Used and Halestorm.

With a total of 5 top 10 singles across all major South African radio stations Mark’s single Wake Up went number 1 on the Kia Take 40 SA chart (Kfm and Highveld) and remained on the chart for a record-breaking 23 weeks.

Mr. Cat and the Jackal

Four piece Mr. Cat and the Jackal are from Cape Town. They relay twist-in-the-tail Balkan stories, or try to woo the crowd ” with a maudlin waltz and sometimes predict the future via Eastern rock n roll…”

Since 2007 the band has entertained with endless tours in intimate settings, as well as headlining major festivals.

They are currently in the process of releasing their fourth album in four parts, titled Chapters. Their latest video, The Man, is out now. The group writes and records their work at their studio, Fresh Meat Studios and sometimes build their own instruments.
