Metal fans have set their sights on Witchfest 2017 this weekend – this year headlined by popular American headbangers DevilDriver. This heavy metal act comes straight from Santa Barbara, California. They formed in 2002, and feature vocalist Dez Fafara (the only remaining original member), guitarists Mike Spreitzer and Neal Tiemann, bassist Diego “Ashes” Ibarra and drummer Austin D’Amond.
DevilDriver was initially called Deathride, but after some copyright issues and the name being taken by several bands, Deathride morphed to DevilDriver – which refers to bells Italian Wiccans used to drive evil forces away.
At Witchfest 2017, in addition to this high-voltage metal onslaught, there’s also a solid line-up of both South African and international players. You can also double up on the Johannesburg leg at The OBB (the Old Bassline building) on Friday, April 14, or hit Cape Town gig on Saturday, 15 April at The Shred.
