This is an exceptional show with Cape Town’s most loved reggae band, The Rivertones, performing the hits of reggae legends such as Bob Marley, UB40 and Eddy Grant, as well as some of their own their originals too. The band had the honour of supporting Ali Campbell’s UB40 during their South African tour in 2023. Reggae music, a treasured cultural export from Jamaica, has served as a unifying force among diverse cultural groups in Cape Town, with The Rivertones at the forefront of this movement. The Rivertones’ performance features Bob Marley reggae classics such as “One Love,” “Is This Love,” “No Woman No Cry,” “Buffalo Soldier,” and “Could You Be Loved.” They also deliver popular UB40 hits like “Kingston Town,” “Red Red Wine,” “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” and Eddy Grant songs like “Electric Avenue,” “I Don’t Wanna Dance,” “Do You Feel My Love,” and “Hope Jo’anna,” along with other reggae favourites.

Die Afrikaanse weergawe van ons treffer The Emperor’s New Clothes, Die Keiser Se Nuwe Klere is ‘n prettige gesinsvertoning, hierin kry Hans Christian Andersen se geliefste sprokie ‘n eg Suid Afrikaanse geur.
Die ydele keiser, obsessief met sy gemaklike en selfsugtige lewensstyl, gee maar min om vir sy onderdane. In sy strewe om die nuutste mode-ikoon te WORD, roep hy die hulp in van die aanloklike Jana, die TikTok sensasie. Maar Jana en haar oupa het ‘n ander plan…. Die toneel sin lig op die wanbalns tussen ryk en arm in Suid Afrika. ‘n Tyd waar ons huidige samelewing obsessief is oor sosiale media soos Tik Tok. Dit is ‘n voorbeeld vir ons om te sterke om beter mense te wees. Dit herinner die gehoor om nie te beïndruk te wees met beroemde en bekende mensen nie. Om ook nie té veel aandag aan geld en roem te gee nie. Die produksie is interaktief en almal geniet die gehoordeelname.

Hierdie program, saamgestel uit Koos du Plessis se onsterflike liedjies asook van sy gedigte en tekste, is ’n herwaardering van sy werk en stel ook van sy minder bekende materiaal bekend. Veertig jaar na sy afsterwe (in 2024) word dit duidelik hoe lewend en relevant sy siening van die lewe steeds bly, hoe treffend sy liedkuns. Jannie du Toit, ’n groot vriend van Du Plessis, sit hiermee sy werk voort om Koos se musiek by ’n volgende geslag te laat voortleef. Hy verwesenlik ook ’n jarelange droom om ’n “eenmanvertoning” oor Koos se werk aan te bied.
