A collaboration between Fibre Designs, South Africa’s leading designer of handwoven floor ware, and Riebeeck Kasteel’s RK Contemporary art gallery, has seen local artists exhibiting at the Fibre Designs studio in De Waterkant, Cape Town.
The showcase will run until 30 March, 2024.
The partnership brings together Fibre Designs’ expertise in crafting luxurious, handwoven rugs and RK Contemporary’s commitment to curating contemporary South African art.
“Fibre Designs and RK Contemporary share a passion for pushing boundaries and reimagining traditional concepts,” says Piere Antoine at Fibre Designs. “This collaboration represents a convergence of our dedication to quality craftsmanship and RK Contemporary’s commitment to promoting established and emerging local talent.”
“We are excited about the possibilities that this collaboration brings,” says Astrid McLeod, owner and curator at RK Contemporary. “It’s not just about combining textiles with art; it’s about creating an experience within the spaces we inhabit. Together, Fibre Designs and RK Contemporary aim to elevate the way people perceive and interact with their surroundings.”
RK Contemporary will curate regular exhibitions at the Fibre Designs Studio in De Waterkant featuring contemporary art across a variety of disciplines including painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking and ceramics.
About Fibre Designs
Pierre Antoine, creative inspiration and owner of Fibre Designs, opened the door to this bespoke studio in 2009. Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo (then Belgian Congo), Pierre is a great believer in the craftsmanship and quality of his bespoke products. He has been commissioned by ABC New York, the world’s largest retailer of rugs, as well as by Takor (Spain), Merida Meridian (USA) and Casa Julio Tapestes (Brazil). Other corporate commissions include Anglo American’s prestigious Ravenswood Manor (Cape Town). Antoine’s knowledge of rugs is also well sought after by Sotheby’s and Christie’s for whom he often consults.
His talent for design, coupled with a specialist technical understanding of hand-woven textiles, positions Pierre as uniquely qualified to deliver products of distinct quality and beauty. Today Fibre Designs is a creative haven for homeowners, interior designers, and architects.
