Comedians are facing-off for total comedy glory in a new comedy franchise. Comedy Central (DStv channel 122) is throwing down the gauntlet to South African stand-ups – challenging them to the ultimate comedic battle in a sizzling new local comedy series, Comedy Central Roast Battle.

The series launched on January 16 at 9pm, and the rest of the Roast Battle is now cooking along in six parts, pitting funny folk against each other.

The barbed jousts will hopefully capture a series of quick-fire comedic combats – the comedians only weapons: original one-liners, abominable insults, jokes, and more.

Their quest?  To out-joke, out-do and ultimately defeat their comedy comrades.

It’s John Vlismas who has fun steering the play …

These Roast Battles are hosted by top SA comedian John Vlismas.

In each Roast Battle, six top comedians go head-to-head, with three pairs of comedians armed with an arsenal of jokes to “burn” their opponents. The Roast Battle host, guest judges and studio audiences then decide who will proceed to the next round.

Mark Banks

The shows participating comedians include the likes of veteran Mark Banks, Jason Goliath, Deep Fried Man, Mojak Lehoko, Tumi Morake and Schalk Bezuidenhout – and more.
