Gate69 offers a treat for just about all the senses, with fabby food and wine, great service and a line-up of shows for the year. MEGAN FURNISS paid a visit:

I was invited to Gate69 recently and I jumped at the chance. I hadn’t been yet, and I’ve been dying to take in the venue. And what an absolute treat it was.

My date and I were hugged and squeezed at the door by hosts and owners Brendan van Rijn and Luanna … and made to feel like the most V VIPs, which was so delicious.

The glam foyer and bar were packed with beautiful people and I caught up with a few familiar faces and we had a good chin wag over a magnificent glass of bubbly before waltzing up the staircase to the enchanted, star spangled venue.

Being seen and heard

My date and I had a perfect view of the cutest, pros arch stage from our table and we gasped at the tower of delicacies on our own personal lazy Susan. My request for vegan food hadn’t made it to the reservation, but after mentioning that, speedier than a drag wig change, the most amazing vegan substitutes arrived before my eyes and I was not disappointed. Nachos, humus, chickpea salad, slaw filled tacos. It was all delicious. My date indulged in the omni fare and she said that her spread was amazing too.

I haven’t been drinking, but on Saturday night I wished I had been a little more adventurous than sparkling water because the table service was so good. You know when miraculously, in a room full of demanding people, you feel like you are being seen and heard? Brilliant.

My experience at Gate69 was so lovely, that even though the particular show was 100% not my cup of anything, I am diarising the next one, so that I can indulge in the delights of a beautiful, superbly run dinner theatre venue.
