If the new Tribes’ Got Soul event is anything to judge by – this series is going to be phenomenal! Launching on Friday, 24 and Saturday, 25 February at the newly-opened Gate 69 in Bree Street, the first acts on this bill are pretty impressive.
The two nights of collaborations sees, all the way from LA, jazz fusion trio dubbed El Trio, featuring Marco Mendoza, bassist for Thin Lizzy, White Monster, Dead Daisies. This charismatic frontman is joined by Renato Neto who played alongside Prince for 15 years, and Joey Heredia who played with Stevie Wonder and other heavyweights. This trio has been playing in LA for 25 years and has become a steady feature of the LA jazz, funk, soul, rock and fusion scene.
The Brother Moves On, Sannie Fox & Hezron Chetty
And from Jozi comes the formidable Brother Moves, who’ll perform a unique set with Thandi Ntuli – multiple award-winning jazz pianist and vocalist.
And from home – soul and blues singer Sannie Fox is Joined by her band, as well as Durban’s Hezron Chetty playing ‘psych rock’ violin. And lastly, also expect French DJ Fred Spider, with guest DJ Captain Science .
The organizers plan is to bring the best of local and international musicians together for “a soulful evening in a soulful space, where good people find good music”. The event is brought to you by Jump Events SA – www.jump-group.com
Tribes’ Got Soul will focus on jazz, funk, blues, rock, and anything with soul, with the aim, of introducing members of the tribe to high-quality musicians from around the world, in conjunction with the best of local artists to create a memorable experience.
Unlike their other shows, Tribes’ Got Soul is “an intimate affair aimed at offering intimate musical experiences, in beautiful spaces, with great sound, good hospitality and seriously hot music”.
