The Cape Cultural Collective’s Our Rights, Our Future programme will feature an interesting musical lineup at The Slave Church in Long Street on Friday, 24 March. Former Moodphase Five singer Ernestine Deane, with blues guitarist Elton Goslett, will share her artistic talent, while the ever-popular Rosa Choir takes to the stage with their magical multi-lingual offerings.
Flamenco guitar icon Bienyameen Camroodien is also on the bill, and he will be accompanied by his 16-year-old son Dawood. Prolific songwriter/guitarist Byron Clarke also returns to the CCC stage.
Poetry by Kyle Louw and Philomene Luyindula
Poems will be delivered by Kyle Louw whose star remains on the rise, plus a newcomer to the Collective’s stage will be Philomene Luyindula. The Terreiro Capoeira group will also present some of their energetic dance movements.
Poet Khadija Tracey Heeger will do a tribute to 10 human rights icons of the last century, through words and sounds. This will be accompanied by multimedia visuals and text.

The event is a collaborative venture with The Cape Town Festival and SA Sendinggestig Museum. This gig serves as the CCC’s monthly programme and is also part of the Cape Town Festival programme at the Castle of Good Hope on Tuesday 21, March from 10am to 6pm.
“We are focusing on multiple aspects of human rights, “said CCC Steering Committee member Thulani Nxumalo – “the good, the bad and the invisible”. He said the programme is both an opportunity to reflect and celebrate. “Also, it is a space where Capetonians can come together across social divides,” he added.
The CCC celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and has started rolling out a bumper year of projects. This year’s programme includes monthly events, a culture summit, a community picnic and an extravaganza at a theatre. The CCC works with cultural groups from Langa, Mitchells Plain and Manenberg. The Rosa choir has been nominated for a provincial cultural award in the category Best Contribution to the Preservation of Local Heritage. The CCC will also also shortly embark on a cultural project with the Communicare group.
