The beautiful organic farm Camphill Village Westcoast hosts the upcoming outdoor Off the Grid fest. The party kicks off with the hip hop sounds of Aikhona – a new talent for the West Coast offering ‘very lekker’ local flair. A rock act dubbed Bootleggers plans to get punters on their feet, while smoking guitarist Albert Frost later turns up the volume.
Popular Majozi had a phenomenal year in 2016, and he will also brighten the stage with his soulful repertoire. New indie band Jackal and the Wind also rev up the party. The cherry on top will, of course, be Freshlyground.
Really ‘Off the Grid’
Camphill Village is home to approximately 90 intellectually disabled adults who also work on the farm in a diary, bakery, cosmetics workshop and on the land. Camphill Village MD, James Sleigh, says “This festival is a fundraising event, to assist us in becoming more sustainable as an organic organisation and to share what we are about and to bring the world to our residents in their home. This is our third music festival but it now has a new name. Off the Grid was the idea of one of our donors. This encompasses our dedication to becoming self-sufficient through interesting projects and developments on the farm. For instance, we currently provide 65KW solar electricity and aim to generate 100KW during the next year. Off the Grid is also a play on festivalgoers having to leave the city for a short drive to our lovely farm.

Gates open at 1pm and a DJ starts at 2pm. Bands play from 5pm. A camping option is available for festivalgoers not keen to drive home late at night.
