Bokani Dyer Altoman Fredrik Kronkvist and pianist Bokani Dyer (pictured left) are both set to play jazz in Kalk Bay. Kronkvist will be at the Olympia Bakery on 28 March 2024, and Dyer will be at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church on 4 April 2024.

Altoman Fredrik Kronkvist from Sweden is considered one of Europe’s finest alto saxophonists. Fredrik is an award-winning musician and has 20 albums out as a leader, alongside musicians such as Jeff Tain Watts, Gregory Hutchinson, Jason Marsalis, Aaron Goldberg, Reuben Rogers, Orrin Evans, Antonio Sanchez, Adam Nussbaum and others.

Nominated for a Swedish Grammy for the album Monk Vibes he made the list of best albums released that year in Down Beat Magazine. For his concert at the Olympia Bakery in Kalk Bay he plays with his quartet including Andrew Lilley on piano and Langa Dubazane on drums.

Pianist Bokani Dyer’s Radio Sechaba album was released recently through Brownswood Recordings, the independent record label founded by DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson. Bokani was born in Botswana where many artists like his father Steve Dyer were living in exile. He has won the acclaimed Standard Bank Young Artist Award as well as a South African Music Award.

He has played the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam in 2022, he was part of the South African Songbook (2019) at the Lincoln Centre USA, London Jazz Festival (2015), and the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (2015) and had an artistic residency at the Bird’s Eye jazz club in Basel, Switzerland (2014). This year he features at the Cape Town Jazz Festival again.
