Kuganha has opened in the Western Cape, pioneering a new category of luxury wellness safari within a 10,000-hectare rewilded Big Five conservancy – it’s situated just under 2.5 hours from Cape Town.
Recognised by Robb Report as one of the 50 greatest luxury hotels in the world for 2026, Kuganha combines personal wellness, safari wildlife, conservation, privacy and ultra-luxury hospitality in a malaria-free Western Cape setting.
It features only 10 private tented suites, each measuring a minimum of 320 square metres, making them the largest one-bedroom private tented safari suites in Africa. Its pioneering concept brings a complete world of private wellness into the comfort of each guest’s tented suite, offering a range of experiences, facilities and equipment at their disposal 24 hours a day.
The concept has been developed from more than 25 years of hosting high-net-worth travellers, celebrities, sports stars and diplomats visiting Cape Town, and recognising their demand for greater privacy, exclusivity, convenience, quality, tranquillity and in-suite service.

Wellness, culinary, hospitality experiences
Kuganha has been designed to provide guests with comprehensive wellness, culinary and hospitality experiences within the privacy of their own tented suite and at the individual rhythm and pace of each guest.
Each suite includes private wellness facilities, with more in-room wellness equipment and facilities than many conventional spas. These include a sauna, steam room, Himalayan salt oxygen halotherapy room, flotation deprivation pod, ice plunge bath, jacuzzi plunge pool, double massage beds and massage facilities.
An introductory wellness journey forms part of the Kuganha experience and introduces guests to the safe use and operation of the private in-suite wellness facilities.
The wellness concept is built around a simple philosophy: The spa must rewild your soul. The food must rewild your body. The wellness must rewild your mind.
Reset and rewild
The culinary experience has been designed to restore and replenish and can be customised around the personal wellness, reset and rewild journey of each guest.
Guests can expect fine cuisine using fresh, organic, sustainable and locally sourced produce, with no effort or expense spared in creating a high-end culinary experience.
Dining can be enjoyed in the privacy of the tented suite or in the Kuganha restaurant overlooking the infinity pool and waterhole, with views across the vast Karoo landscapes, mountain ranges, safari wildlife and night skies. The intention is that guests will run out of appetite before Kuganha runs out of cuisine.
The 10,000-hectare conservancy on which Kuganha is located has undergone extensive rewilding, including the rehabilitation of large areas of rare and indigenous vegetation and the reintroduction of the Big Five and other safari wildlife to this part of the Western Cape after many species had been hunted out of the region more than 270 years ago.
This conservation and rewilding work has received unparalleled international recognition for its contribution to conservation, social upliftment and sustainable tourism.
It’s part of the Aquila Collection.
