In association with Concerts SA, saxophonist Linda Tshabalala will present her first national tour, in anticipation of her upcoming debut album.

Expanding the growth of jazz female instrumentalists in South Africa, Linda Tshabalala is a jazz saxophonist from Daveyton, Benoni. She is amongst the recipients of the 2018-2019 Mobility Fund from Concerts SA. This support will enable Tshabalala to embark on a national tour, which will commence in Cape Town from 24 to 27 January 2019.
Inspired by her journey in music, Convergence is an upcoming debut album offering from Tshabalala, who has believed in her calling in music from the tender age of nine years old. The album will be a representation of all the joys and struggles she has undergone pursuing her calling.
“The music on my upcoming album is of African descent, truly representative of an African in the new age who knows where she comes from and who she is,” says Tshabalala.
The band features Tshabalala on alto saxophone and flute, Dylan Fine on guitar, Thembi Dunjana on piano, Gally Ngoveni on bass, and Bonolo Nkoane on drums.
This ensemble is set to perform at The Alliance Française, The Drawing Room, The Craft & Design Institute Market at The V&A Waterfront, as well as Jazz in the Native Yards in Kwa Sec (Gugulethu), where they will also host a workshop.
Through many of her own and others’ life experiences, Tshabalala has found inspiration to create music that tells stories of the journey of life. One of her compositions is an ode titled Nomza, dedicated to her mother.
Tshabalala will also be touring to Durban and Johannesburg in the ensuing months.
