Hilarious! Spontaneous! Witty! Clever! Mindblowing! It’s the Mama City Improv Festival, featuring improv comedy from around the world, coming to Cape Town!

From 31 October to 4 November 2018 improv comedians will flock to the Magnet Theatre in Observatory for four nights and five days of side-splitting improv comedy performances.
Players from Canada, USA, Argentina and Spain, together with troupes from Joburg and Cape Town, with a sprinkling of international players from all over Europe, will team up to perform this made-up-on-the-spot style of comedy. Shows are at 7, 9 and 11pm.
Troupes performing include:
The Lusty Mannequins (Canada); Champagne Boyfriend (Canada); The Long Shots (Cape Town); ImproGuise (Cape Town); The 2nd Liners (Cape Town); Mmankokosana Playback Theatre (Joburg)
Improvisation – the art of live performance with no script and no pre-planning – has been steadily on the rise in Cape Town for the last decade, catching up to what is becoming a global movement. The audience inspires what the show will be about with suggestions, and the performers weave tales and create characters based on that. It’s a completely immersive comedy experience.
The Mama City Improv Festival had its inaugural year in 2016 with the aim of growing SA’s improv scene, and this year promises to be even bigger and more hilarious.
