This week on My Kitchen Rules SA, it’s the turn of husband and wife pair Bruce and Claudia from Midrand to pull out all of the stops in their attempt to reach the top of the MKRSA leaderboard and overtake the highly critical Bloem Besties Liz and Leanne.
Bruce and Claudia have been somewhat of an enigma in the competition so far, keeping their competitors constantly guessing about their strategy and true opinions about the food that has been served up over the past two weeks.
So what happens next?
After discovering that the married parents-of-two’s Instant Restaurant was up next, the current leaders of the competition Liz and Leanne weighed in: “This is going to be explosive! What makes Bruce tick? He’s clearly a perfectionist. So what’s going to happen in their kitchen when things go south?”
Book club besties Kelly and Claire – who have yet to host – also had questions about Bruce. “I don’t think that Bruce is the most adventurous eater…” Kelly guessed. Does this mean that the “Mr & Mrs” team be playing it safe from a flavour point of view?
This past Sunday, “food dudes” Rein and Rowan from Krugersdorp were unsuccessful in beating Bloem besties Liz and Leanne’s top score of 69 out of 100, as their offering of a garlic prawn starter, guinea fowl main course and strawberry and peanut butter parfait dessert only managed to earn them a more moderate 63 out of 100 from their fellow competitors and celebrity judges David Higgs and J’Something.
For Bruce and Claudia to earn the top spot they’ll have to get creative with flavours and ingredients. With Bruce having a mixed Chinese and Belgian heritage, and Claudia having been born in Mauritius, could they dispel all of their competitors’ suspicions and surprise everyone with some big, bold creations?
