Cape Town Opera’s delightful Opera Blocks series returns to Artscape by popular demand from 1 to 4 April 2023.
Audience members – both little ones and not-so-little ones alike – are bound to be enthralled by this specially curated production of Opera Blocks: Petals that, like previous iterations, is designed to engage and stimulate young minds with beautiful music, gentle choreography and mesmerising visual effects. Incorporating lighting and props that are both fun and engaging, the production is an immersive experience for babies and young children and it’s equally enjoyable for adults.
Exposing young children to classical music has tried and tested positive effects on their developing minds and creativity. Opera Blocks brings music, song and play together in an exciting and explorative way.

Sponsored by the City of Cape Town, this production is directed by Magdalene Minnaar, with set and costume design by the Cape Town Opera production team and lighting design by the Artscape lighting department.
Opera Blocks: Petals is suitable for children age 0 to 5 years. Performances will take place in the Innovation Lounge at Artscape (first floor of the Opera House) on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 April 2023 at 10am and 12pm and on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 April 2023 at 2pm and 4pm. Each child must be accompanied by an adult, excluding babes in arms.
