Silvermist Wine Estate’s Drumstruck experience gives guests the opportunity to journey through the history of African music, to learn to play a drum and to be entertained by some local drummers.

The show, in the heart of the Cape Town Constantia winelands, is paired with wine tasting, featuring wines from local estates. It’s hosted by Silvermist owner and winemaker Gregory Brink Louw.

Drumstruck opens in the the Constantia Valley on 21 October 2022. The production has toured across the globe, including an 18-month stint Off-Broadway in New York, Australia, Dollywood in the US, and a 10-year run in Japan. Drumstruck producer Warren Lieberman explains that it was developed in the early 2000s “to bring the joyful, transformative process of communal drumming to audiences across the world.”

Storytelling

Facilitated by top percussionists, the show features rare instruments, which illustrate the journey from the first drum. Each audience member is provided with their own djembe and get to play along.

Drumstruck at Silvermist is a scaled-down version of the international production, with the same storytelling elements.

“Before embarking on the musical journey, guests will participate in a wine tasting facilitated by Gregory, who is a captivating storyteller. Guests will have the opportunity to taste exclusive South African wines, including the rare Silvermist organic wines, and learn about the history of the Constantia valley, while taking in the extraordinary views of the peninsula. Children are welcome too – we will provide a non-alcoholic option,” Lieberman adds.

For guests who want to have a bite before or after the show, the View at Silvermist is open for a light meal. There is also a shop with wines from the Constantia valley.
