Following the success of the adrenalin-filled Snake Season on People’sWeather in 2020, KwaZulu-Natal snake expert Nick Evans and cameraman Tyrone Marcus return for a second series of Snake Season, starting on PPL°WX – People’sWeather (DStv – CH180 and Openview – CH115) on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 6pm.

The new 8-part second season revs up the excitement as Evans outwits some of the country’s most venomous and deadly snakes, with added action as Marcus enters the fray bringing his behind-the-scenes footage of the rescues to life.

Jaw-dropping snake rescues

Evans, with his calm demeanour and enthusiasm, takes viewers  through some jaw-dropping snake rescues, all packed with loads of nervous hilarity.

“It was as if the humans all went into COVID lockdown and the snakes stuck their heads out and said hello!” says Evans, who runs KwaZulu-Natal Amphibian and Reptile Conservation.

“We had a bumper season of rescuing countless dangerous snakes, and while more people being in lockdown at home led to an increase in sightings, we also began filming at a time when snakes are very active, with a good rainy season and some hot weather.”

Snake Season 2 is packed with many tense moments as well as challenging rescues that include climbing a tree; walking on an about-to-collapse asbestos roof; deconstructing a tiled roof whilst in the middle of a double mamba capture, or searching for an African Python in driving rain in tall grass and thick mud.

Special highlights

There’s also a surprise marriage proposal for Evans, whose skills at rescuing black mambas in Chatsworth impressed an onlooker, a proliferation of gravid (pregnant) snakes, and a number of baby snakes born on camera.

“Highlights include two double black mamba captures, saving a dog that had been bitten by a black mamba, being spat at by a Mozambique spitting cobra and finding those gravid snakes,” says Evans.

“We  love the authenticity and the relatable local flavour of Snake Season and so does our audience,” says Stephan Le Roux, CEO of People’sWeather.

“Both Nick and Tyrone are so unassuming and completely focused on helping snakes survive by doing what they love, which makes for great content and certainly appeals to our viewers.”

Snake Season 2 will premiere on PPL°WX – People’sWeather (DStv – CH180 and Openview – CH115). The series will be shown over two weeks with new episodes daily from Monday to Thursday at 6pm and 9pm, with a repeat at 10.30am and 2pm the following day. There will also be an omnibus shown on the weekend.
