Ian von Memerty brings Synergy to the Theatre on the Bay, and, together with his wife Vivienne, will make onstage magic as they explore some of the greatest showbiz partnerships in the world.
With fabulous costumes from around the globe, beautiful musical arrangements for orchestra by Debbie Quicke, moody lighting by David Limbert, and Roelof Colyn, “the best set of fingers in the business” on keyboards, this is elegant, exciting entertainment. Together they combine 26 years of life’s struggles and their creative partnership and bring fresh insight into the synergy that happens when two people work as one. Ian von Memerty, “the king of versatility” is joined by his wife of 26 years, Vivienne, “the queen of dance”, and they explore various showbiz partnerships.
Glamour and joy
In the show, the duo perform the glamour of the Gershwin Brothers (I Got Rhythm, Summertime), the effervescent joy of the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, the Aristocats), the show-business sizzle of Kander and Ebb (Chicago, Cabaret, New York New York), the musical magic of Lennon and McCartney (Yesterday, Hey Jude, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da), the sophisticated drama of Desiree and Frederick in Sondheim and Wheeler’s A Little Night Music (Send In the Clowns, You Must Meet My Wife), the laughter-filled poignancy of Tevye and Golde in Bock and Harnick’s Fiddler On the Roof (Sunrise Sunset, Do You Love Me? If I Were A Rich Man). It’s a broad repertoire to suit all tastes, presented with style and class.
