Head to Swing Nights at The Taj for an evening of prohibition era swing, jazz and blues music that you can dance to – with costumes to boot. The fun all happens at The Reserve at the Taj Hotel on Friday, 15 December.
The organiser’s view is that since we’ve entered a recession, they see fit to return to the era of the Great Depression – to drink and dance those sorrows away, the good old fashioned way.
The Swing Cats
Gerald Schreiner and Daneel van der Walt on vocals are joined by David Lube on piano and the swing band The Swing Cats on trumpet, trombone, drums, double bass and clarinet. They entertain with a mix of jazz, blues and swing music to dance to. Some familiar standards to expect include It’s too Darn Hot, Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off and On the Sunny Side of the Street.
Dinner will be served and a cash bar is available. Indicate when booking whether you want to be seated for dinner, or just want an area in the bar for drinks.
The showcase is a night of singing and dancing on the dance floor, and everyone is encouraged to get off their chairs and foxtrot, swing, tap or do the jitterbug. All guests are requested to dress the part, although it is not compulsory, but it will add to the vibe. Think of an old school dinner dance, of speakeasies, flapper dresses, flat caps and champagne glasses moulded off the breast of Marie Antoinette.
