12 TO 23 July: ROMANZA WITH JAMES GRACE & COMPANIA SOPHIA

Following sold-out seasons of RECUERDOS in 2017 and 2018, guitarist JAMES GRACE joins forces with COMPANIA SOPHIA, directed by Spanish Dance choreographer and principle dancer CARLI OLIVIER to present their brand-new production ROMANZA – a Spanish-inspired guitar and dance programme featuring music from Grace’s recent SAMA-winning album Anadaluza – Music of Spain III.

12 July: FOM GALA CONCERT WITH THE CPO

Friends of Orchestral Music and the CPO present a gala concert with tickets including bubbly, canapes and a printed programme. Conductor Bernhard Gueller. Soloists Daniel Rowland (violin) and Maja Bogdanovic (cello) perform Brahms Double Concerto. Also on the programme are Verdi’s Forza del Destino overture and Beethoven Symphony No. 5

13 July: OPERATUNITY PRESENTS BONGIWE NAKANI

SA Operatunity brings you the 2nd Opera Recital Unmuted featuring acclaimed mezzo-soprano Bongiwe Nakani. She shares the stage with UCT Opera school’s emerging opera artists, Setsoana Ntseki (soprano), Vuyisa Xivu (tenor) and Smelo Mahlangu (bass-baritone).

Join these opera stars and experience unique voices, sing some of their favourite opera repertoire in a mini recital at the ArtsCape Innovation Lounge with a professional opera pianist, David Lubbe

16 July: COMMUNITY SPECTACULAR WITH THE CPO

This year the CPO is happy to present singers Zolani Mahola, Lynelle Kenned, Paxton Fielies, Sarah Theron and Corneil Muller with saxophonist Kagiso Ramosa, violinists David Bester and Corban Beukes, the Zip Zap Circus, and dancers, Jazzart and Unmute.

Aviva Pelham directs, Stefan Lombard is musical director and Louis Heyneman the producer, a team that has successfully brought previous concerts to the public.

17 July: YOUNG ARTISTS CONCERT AT OLD NECTAR

Join Cameron Williams and Albie van Schalkwyk for a recital of clarinet and piano music showcasing the broad and varied repertoire for the combination. From masterpieces of the romantic period and the twentieth century through to neoclassicism and jazz, there is something for everyone to enjoy with works by Reger, Schumann, Berg, Poulenc and Kovács.

22 July: THE FINAL STUDY AT ERIN HALL

An evening of Western Art Music in support of Nkululeko Zungu, a South African born composer who graduated from the University of Northern Colorado. His studies focussed on contemporary styles of composition. For this concert Nkululeko will share at the piano a blend of traditional and contemporary Western Art Music.

24 July: COLOURS OF LIFE CONCERT FOR ST LUKES HOSPICE

Hosted by Eugene Lebreton at the beautiful Villa Pascal Venue; A delightful Tea time Concert will be held in aid of St Luke’s combined Hospices.

The concert features soprano Cornelia Conrad-Vos and pianist Albie van Schalkwyk  with a programme of all time classics from both the Musical and Cabaret genre including La Vie en Rose, Moon River, My Funny Valentine and many more.

24 July: WINTER DIVERSIONS: WOODWINDS AT ST BARNABAS

An afternoon of fantastic woodwind music in aid of U-Turn Homeless Ministries. Principal oboist of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra Lisa White is joined by Matthew Ferrandi on clarinet and Tatiana Thaele from The Flute Practice to showcase a great variety of music for woodwinds, including the wonderful Divertimento for Woodwind Trio by Malcolm Arnold and the brilliant and quirky Five Pieces for Oboe by Antal Doráti. Profits support U-Turn Homeless Ministries.

26 July: HOMAGE TO HENDRIK HOFMEYR

Cellist Anmari van der Westhuizen, together with some of Cape Town’s foremost musicians, presents an evening of music by internationally acclaimed composer Hendrik Hofmeyr, who retires at the end of 2022 as Head of Composition at the SA College of Music

25 – 27 July: UCT STRINGS COMPETITION

A newly formed strings competition takes place at the SA College of Music with the semi-finals on 25 July and the finals on 27 July with a total cash prize fund of R80,000.
