The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 2020 Oscar nominations for the 92nd annual Academy Awards from the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, California on Monday, 13 January.
The Oscars will be handed out at the Academy Awards ceremony on 9 February.
Films released or distributed by Empire Entertainment in Southern Africa received a total of 36 nominations, with four Empire titles nominated in the Best Picture category. JOKER leads the race with 11 nominations, closely followed by 1917 with 10 nominations. 1917 starts showing in South African cinemas on Friday, 17 January 2020.
