The Barleycorn Music Club’s penultimate show for 2017 show is presented by Carlo Bidoli. The club meets every Monday at 8pm at Villager FC in Claremont.
Here’s what’s on the bill this week:
Sketches of Lila
A two-piece acoustic band who the musos describe as “two IT dudes who love writing and singing songs. We enjoy sharing our stories through our music.
We infuse an eastern influence into our sets where possible and Sanvir sings in Hindi as well.”

Christine Weir & The Kilts
This is Celtic song at its best. With Christine Weir on lead vocals, Matthew Weir on bass guitar and vocals, Duncan Robinson on guitar, Leon Oosthuizen on accordion and Rayelle Goodman on violin playing a repertoire that will enthral lovers of Celtic and folk music. Feel free to come in your kilt if you have one!
The Oh So Serious
This band of musical brothers from Pretoria is on their seasonal tour. They bring with them the culture of rhythm and blues and the stories which have carried them these nine years. Their #BOKMACHINA Tour 2017 comprises of rhythm and blues duo Thinus Scheepers and Franco Jamneck plus lyrical outlaw Vana on guitar.
“The Idea behind The Oh So Serious folk collective was to connect with artists to get together a band for my 60th”, say Vana. “These guys brought out the big guns straight off the bat with their highly impressive range of musical instruments and the skill to back it up” — The Grind Radio

Schalk Joubert & Friends
Schalk is a multi-award-winning bass player, composer, arranger, producer and musical director. Over the last 20 years he’s played anything from rock & pop to classical, jazz and traditional African music.
He has recorded and performed with the likes of David Kramer, Anton Goosen, The Crash Test Dummies, Michelle Shocked, Hugh Masekela, Regis Gizavo and Zolani Mahola.
He’s also gigged many international festivals with Schalk Joubert & the Three Continents Sextet.
Schalk’s Barleycorn includes five musicians – possibly Kevin Gibson, Ronan Skillen and a Dutch singer for a song or two.
