Comic Con Africa, Africa’s largest multi-genre pop-culture and gaming festival, takes place from 22 to 25 September, 2022, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

The four-day festival focusses on all elements of pop culture and brings international and local comic artists, film and TV celebrities, and Cosplayers, where they meet fans, sign autographs and have photo ops.

Packed with championships, competitions, super show specials, product launches, workshops, panels, Q&A sessions, screenings, activations, and interactive experiences, there is something for everyone to enjoy whether you are a casual fan or a bona fide geek.

Comic Con Africa features KidsCon which makes it the ultimate family day out. A ticket to Comic Con Africa gets you into KidsCon.

A new addition is a Comic Con Africa Sew-A-Thon challenge. The 8-hour Sew-A-Thon tests the skills and the handiwork of local sewists, fashion designers, and costume designers – from beginners to advanced.

Highlighting craftmanship

The feature promises an intense, fun, and nail-biting competition for contestants. The event will also be broadcast live on YouTube for all to join in and spectate the gripping time-based challenge, while they are checking in with contestants as their creations come to life.

Comic Con Africa Content Director, Rene Staack said that this fun experience will put the creative and technical know-how of beginner, intermediate, and advanced contestants to the test, all while standing a chance to win their share of a prize pool valued over R23 000,00 brought to you by Brother South Africa & STADIO.

“Cosplay is a cornerstone of Comic Con Africa, and behind every great cosplay is a great designer. We are hoping that this challenge highlights more craftmanship.” Staack added.
