Cape Town Gay Pride and LGBTQ show, Because it’s okay, is a multi-media experience that will be staged at The Galloway Theatre from 21 – 24 February, and again from 7 – 10 March.
Written, directed and performed by Adolph De Beer and Regina R Malan, Because it’s okay is produced by Mish Mash Media, and explores how people in the LGBTQ community live and love, and the struggles they still face.
The production incorporates poetry, video, pop and classical music – all telling real stories. Alongside the show will be a photography exhibition by Martin Kluge.
“In a world where there is so much hate, discrimination, racism, sexism and homophobia, it’s comforting to know that something as simple as a rainbow flag can bring people together. Lesbian, gay, straight, bisexual, transgender, pansexual, gender queer, asexual, or pansexual – people should be allowed to be who they are, be with whom they want to be and just be happy. Why? Because it’s okay!”
“We will be exploring how people in the LGBTQ community live and love as we use poetry, classical and pop music, a photography exhibition and video to tell real stories. The goal is to create an all South African LGBTQ documentary one day and this project is the beginning of it all. It’s a multi-media experience with LGBTQ themes just in time for PRIDE. So do join us. It’s going to be a fabulous and beautiful party!”
