A tribute to musician Dave Ledbetter, who died after a car crash in the UK in November 2022, will be held at the Baxter on Monday 6 February 2023. Gone But Not Forgotten – a Tribute to Dave Ledbetter will feature a line-up of top SA performers.
Described as “a genre-hopping virtuoso whose guitar and keyboard work have graced projects ranging from the short-lived punk outfit Illegal Gathering to the jazz-fusion supergroup Workforce”, Dave was born in the UK but spent most of his life in South Africa where he established himself as a highly-respected and popular guitarist/pianist/composer/bandleader and general lover of all things groovy.
A versatile musician, Dave performed across a variety of genres from folk to jazz to rock and more, forming outfits such as the legendary Trully Fully Hey Shoo Wow Band, and performing with the likes of Manu Dibango, Jimmy Dludlu, Sibongile Khumalo, Miriam Makeba, Ray Phiri, Robbie Jansen, Tina Schouw and Ronan Skillen, amongst many others. Dave featured several times at the National Jazz Festival in Grahamstown, and has recorded two albums, as well as appearing on countless others as a sought-after session guitarist and pianist, including collaborative group, Deep South.
The tribute on Monday will feature Mark Sampson as host and MC, with musicians Kevin Gibson, Marcus Wyatt, Buddy Wells, Graham Beyer, Gavin Minter, Amy Campbell, Mark Goliath, Crick Lund, Aldirt Du Toit, Amanda Tiffin, Michael Bester, Hein Van De Geyn, Ronan Skillen, Nick Williams, Romy Brauteseth, Lynne Poulsen, Tina Schouw, Michele Maxwell, Gary Deacon, Abigail Petersen, Stanislav Angelov and Cedric Vandenschrik.
