The intimate Koelkamers Teater in Paternoster on the Cape West Coast has been running for three years and shows no signs of stopping.
On the weekend of 17 January 2025, they kick off with an acoustic performance by Karen Zoid. On Sunday afternoon at noon, the legendary Mathys Roets will present his Leonard Cohen tribute.
For the rest of January, acts on the bill include Des Lindberg of Des & Dawn fame; following him will be Neil Sandilands and Schalk Joubert with Namib Sushi Junkies, and at month end, Steve Graham’s Masters of Rock.
Comedy and kids
If you’re in the mood for comedy to shake off the “Januworry blues”, as Die Koelkamers has just the remedy with Marc Lottering, Tollie Parton, Timothy Kieswetter, Weskus Duchess, and Nik Rabinowitz.
In February, there’s also something for the kids with a special children’s project for the Paternoster community. Sonja and Tjokker will be visiting. Aunt Sonja (Sonja Herholdt) will stay on to present her award-winning show Tydloos for the adults.
Blues guitarist Dan Patlansky will also return for the third time to Die Koelkamers later in March 2025.
Theatre shows
Upcoming plays include Moord met ’n T featuring Tobie Cronje, Ignatius van Heerden, and André Lötter; Hans bars die bioborrel with Tiaan Slabbert; and Ilne Fourie with her new one-woman show, Verkleurvroutjie.
Musical theatre productions to look forward to are Frazer & Deniel Barry’s Colourful Characters, and At Botha and Koos van der Merwe’s Uit die Kamers van die Binneste.
Reggae in March
Look out for the reggae group The Rivertones in the month of March, who will pay tribute to Bob Marley, Eddie Grant, and UB40.
Music stars such as Juan Boucher, Valiant Swart, Dutch singer Stef Bos, and cabaret doyenne Helena Hettema will also make their way to the West Coast.
Jan Malan, co-owner of Die Koelkamers Teater, says, “The big announcement is that Mynie Grové will bring her first performance in 20 years to Die Koelkamers. It’s a great honour for us. This will take place on 21 and 22 February. Kim Kallie and Jaconel Mouton will be on stage with her. Don’t miss it.”
