Southern African reggae and world music fans have something to celebrate in May, as acclaimed French group Dub inc will arrive in the regions for a series of festival gigs.
The epitome of the successful European reggae band, Dub inc’s hundreds of performance over the past 10 years have seen them play to over a million fans in 31 countries and 5 continents.
Over the past 20 years, the band has perfected their blend of reggae, dancehall, Kabyl and world music. With the two voices of Bouchkour and Komlan’s fronting the band, the group lives and breathes its message of the ethical intermixing of styles and people.
Whether they write in French, English or Kabyl, a Berber language spoken by the Kabyle people in the north and northeast of Algeria, the band conveys a universal message through their unique sense of melody combined with truthful lyrics.
Born to immigrant parents, the group is both political and optimistic. Their hopeful vision of unity and tolerance will resonate strongly with local reggae fans, while their sound, infused with electronic vibrations, some hints to dubstep, and a few hip hop references is infectiously memorable.
