Alma Café in Rondebosch hosts Gabriel Espi and Nduduzo Mkhize on Sunday, 30 April, 2023. Enjoy dinner from 6.30pm, and the show usually starts later.
Accompanying both of these musicians’ sets will be renowned young pianist Nobuhle Ashanti, along with a creative rhythm section comprised of Tiana Amari on bass and Thulani aka Da Drummer SA on percussion.

Gabriel Espi is a songwriter and producer based in Cape Town. His style takes as much inspiration from Brazilian music’s style of singing and playing guitar as from jazz’s harmony and hip hop’s rhythm and feel.
He loves to follow the spark of a melody or idea as it grows, through performances and input from other musicians and audiences.
He released his debut Intimations EP in 2021 and is set to release his full-length debut Many Moons in May this year. A collaborative project featuring 13 musicians, the project shows Gabriel’s growing voice not just as a songwriter but also as a producer and arranger.
In live shows he is primarily a vocalist and guitarist, using unusual grooves to explore emotional and thought provoking themes.
Nduduzo Mkhize is a singer-songwriter hailing from the mountains of KwaZulu-Natal. He is based in Cape Town and has been a vocalist for the past decade, writing heartfelt songs and performing across the city and country.
Nduduzo’s musical education began early with hours spent refining his voice and singing in choirs during his school years, where he also showed a precocious aptitude for musical arranging. He is a performer of remarkable range with a powerful bass register and the ability to soar to beautiful high notes.
These two musicians have a long history of collaboration and friendship, singing each other’s songs and adding harmonies and arrangements along the way. This will be their first joint show since pre-pandemic times. Listeners can also expect them to appear in each other’s sets (along with another surprise guest or two).
