The GrandWest Open Mic Jazz singing competition has opened the call for talented, non-professional jazz singers to audition.

Yes, it’s that time of year again when GrandWest beckons jazzy vocalists to head to Jackson Hall every Wednesday evening during September 2019 from 8pm to try out for the competition.

How to enter

To enter the OMJ auditions, go to the GrandWest website page, and find the Open Mic Jazz (OMJ) repertoire sheet (www.suninternational.com/open-mic-jazz). Choose a song you would like to sing, then go to the audition, fill in a registration form and you’re ready to roll.

The competition works on a first-come-first-serve basis and there can be only 30 auditions for each session, so be sure to arrive early. Hopefuls should not leave their audition date too late, as the auditions can get very busy.

OMJ auditions – snap up great OMJ prizes

This year the prizes are valued at over R100 000.

“The competition is a platform for up-and-coming singers to show off their talent to the public,” says Elouise Matthys, the PR and Promotions Manager at GrandWest. “If you are a talented singer but you do not make a living from singing and you have not released an album, you are welcome to audition for this competition. Entries are free and there are some fantastic prizes up for grabs,” she says.

“Over the last 11 years there have been some amazingly talented performances at this great competition,” adds Matthys. “We encourage anyone who loves to sing jazz, to try out.”
