On acoustic guitars, bass, and percussion, Hatchetman evokes the pastoral beauty and counterculture spirit of the late 1960s folk-rock scene. This is music that resonates deeply, reimagined by a band with its own rich folk heritage.
Brothers Nick and Matt Catto are third-generation musicians, carrying on the legacy of their grandparents, Keith and Pam Blundell, who were not only stars of South Africa’s beloved “Keith and Kin” TV series in the 1970s but also key figures in representing the English folk music scene in South Africa. Their mother, Julie, a lifetime musician herself, has helped ensure that harmony runs deep in their family’s musical roots.
Jono Tait, son of Richard Tait, owner of the legendary Alma Café, brings his own strong musical heritage to the mix. As co-founder of Hatchetman in 2013, Jono’s connection to the venue and passion for harmony has driven the band to great heights. Now, Hatchetman is back with a show that promises to be both nostalgic and unforgettable.

Join them at Alma Café in Rosebank, the perfect setting for an evening of soulful music. Tickets are R250 per person, and seating is limited, so booking ahead is essential.
On Saturday, doors open at 18h30, with dinner orders closing at 19h00 before the music begins. For the Sunday show, arrive at 18h00 to settle in, as dinner service wraps up by 18h30 to kick off the performance.
You can enjoy a full menu of dinner, desserts, and drinks during the evening. Alma Café is fully licensed, so please note that bringing your own beverages isn’t permitted. Both card and cash payments are welcome. A 24-hour non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your booking.
