I call you dance is a unique dance programme providing space to witness and engage with artists on their practices, influences and inspirations.

I call you dance - Theatre Arts Admin Collective

In a series of curated programmes of performance, spearheaded by the Theatre Arts Admin Collective, curator Julia de Rosenwerth presents her programme I call you dance which consists of a week of dance performances, workshops and discussions with Adriana Jamisse, CAN Creative (Nathan Bartman and Ciara Baldwin) and Ché Adams. The event will run from 24 to 30 September 2018 at the Theatre Arts Admin Collective.

The week with the artists invites conversation around dance as a modality for self-exploration and integration. Looking to the past, each participating artist works with or is influenced by historically established music and dance traditions that inform their practice and shape their understandings of why they dance and how they dance.

I call you dance programme

On 24 and 25 September Adriana Jamisse performs Derivations, an embodied exploration of self through the deconstructing and re-constructing of a Mozambican dance, Marrabenta, with live musician Kerim Becker. The performance is accompanied by post-show discussions on both evenings.

On 26 and 27 September is a double bill of dance performance – Rooted and Rein. CAN Creative performs Rooted, a search for human connection inspired by the infinite network of biological pathways of trees. Julia de Rosenwerth performs Rein, a self-integrative journey through flamenco rhythm and drive. There will be a post-show discussion on 27 September.

On 28 and 29 September Ché Adams performs Querencia, an intimate flamenco portrayal of her journey towards her true self, with live musical accompaniment from Bienyameen Camroodien. A post-show discussion will happen on 29 September.

Over the weekend of 29 and 30 September each artist will host a two-hour workshop, in partnership with arts organisation ANY BODY ZINE. These workshops are for participants who are interested in extending themselves in dance and are curious to travel to new places mentally and physically. Workshops fees are pay-as-you-can.

I call you dance is a space to witness and engage with the artists on their practices, influences and inspirations, with an openness to spark more conversation around the roles folk-dance knowledge systems play in contemporary artistic work.
