Families are in for a special treat when the energy, exuberance and talent of the Indoni dancers is showcased in the unique setting of the Green Point Urban Park.

The Journey is a contemporary dance and music work choreographed by the Indoni Academy’s Company Members, directed by their Artistic Director Sbonakaliso Ndaba.

The performance will begin with separate groups dancing against various backdrops in the beautifully curated indigenous gardens and the Amphitheatre stage. It will culminate in a final joyous celebration, when the destination is reached, on the Little Common.

Sunday afternoon in the park

Having gone through a rigorous three-year training period, the Company Members have been given the challenge of passing on their teaching/leadership skills through outreach training programmes to youngsters in Khayelitsha and New Crossroads. These young dancers will join their role models, together with the many performers of the Indoni Dance Academy, in celebrating the beauty of Cape Town on a Sunday afternoon in the park.

Celebrating the occasion with them will be Jazzart Dance Theatre. Jazzart’s third-year trainees will perform alongside their Outreach programme’s young aspiring dancers from the Makukhanye Arts Room in Khayelitsha and the Vulamathuba Foundation in Brooklyn and Bothasig.

The performance of “The Journey” and the Jazzart’s Outreach Programme are both funded by grants from the City of Cape Town, enabling them to take arts to the people.
